Dear Reader, I’m thrilled to share that I have an upcoming solo exhibition for my series of paintings called “Paradise.” I will exhibit in April at Smallwood State Park in their beautiful gallery on the Potomac. I’ve been brewing on these ideas of holiness, rest, heaven, and even resurrection for a long time now. You may not be religious - but I think we can all agree that much of our world needs to be restored and remade. The resilience of the earth and of our bodies to heal is best exemplified in the cycles of nature. Creation heals and our creator gave us gardens and lush nature in which to heal in. About two years ago, I was entering a period of time where I really need to heal. That healing happened for me in the woods. Namely, Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County. My dog Simba and I would walk there multiple times a week. In the winter woods, we marveled at the shadows, deep colors and the crunch of the pines under our steps. The cold air and tall trees were my medicine. As an artist, I articulated that process of healing through paint. Here is the first painting of the series, now called “Paradise”.
