Dear Reader, I’ve been thinking a lot about children’s perspectives of today’s world. As many know - I teach middle school artists. Each day, I get to hear what is occupying their mind and what the pressing things are for them, in this collective moment. When we were children, we received the idea that good triumphs evil. This is portrayed in our storybooks, folktales, our films and parables. We accept this truth: that good triumphs evil. Maybe not today but one day, all will be set right. Then we grow up and we tell these tales less and less. The world around demonstrates that often - evil does win. We lose this belief and many resort to despair in their adult life. I’m finding myself in a daily battle to retain my hope. It’s part of my faith that I believe one day, there will be no more tears, war or pain. However, knowing and believing are different. So we need to recommit to our faith - day by day - the truth that we know.
