Ripple Effect, 2022

An Exhibition at Gallery Church in Baltimore City, Maryland

Exhibition Statement: The journey of faith is an endless walk into eternity. We never arrive on earth at the fullness of the kingdom or understanding or perfection. Instead, we constantly grow and change into the likeness of our creator. Often, communities of faith believe the opposite. Interpretations of "the narrow path" lead faithful people to a place of certainty and superiority. Things appear black and white because: "we have arrived" and we hold the one and only truth. For the artist, faith has grown in humility of expressing: "I don't know" and "I will never know everything about God". With this posture, the mysteries of God are being revealed and humility is leading to deeper trust in our creator. These paintings illustrate the journey that artist, Julia Glatfelter, has walked on. May they be an invitation for you into a richer walk.

Artist Note: In September of 2020, I joined a Christian fellowship program offered by the non-profit, Coracle. Together, my cohort of about 50 people from the Baltimore region gathered for 12 retreats over 2 years to study various aspects of the Christian life. Following each retreat, I created a painting to summarize what I heard. I pray that these images may deepen the truths that they illustrate in our personal journeys. May they be a blessing to you as you seek the truth and presence of our creator.
