Murals and Public Art
Annual Middle School Mural Course, 2023 - Present
I teach middle school artists in Alexandria, VA. Each fall, students work collaboratively on a campus mural. This work is completed during my visual arts class that runs for 24 weeks, 2x per week. Together, we learn the process of mural arts, create, and execute a design.
My role as a teacher is to facilitate, guide, direct and manage the materials that are needed to execute the student’s vision. So far, I’ve taught 3 mural classes and with each course, I learn something new from these young artists. Below is documentation from student murals created in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Occoquan Pocket Park, Mural Proposal, 2026
In Spring of 2026, I proposed a 4 sided design for a structure in downtown Occoquan. My work was selected as a semifinalist. I share this work as an example of what I could offer a future partner. This rendering includes architectural features from the area, seasonal flowers from the waterfront, and historic features of the main street. When I create a design, I aim to incorporate elements from the immediate surrounding in order to complement rather than compete with visual elements. As an educator, I also offer historic elements as a way to educate viewers on local history.
Kennett Square Public Library, Mural Proposal, 2023
In 2023, there was a call for submission for a mural in my home county of Chester County, Pennsylvania. I submitted this design called “Light Sources.” The mural illustrates the overlapping histories of the Lenape Tribe, Safe Houses of the Underground Railroad, and the illuminating light of a child reading these stories from a book. I show this design to give future partners an idea of what I can illustrate for public spaces.
Little Free Pantry: Patterson Park, 2022
I collaborated on the creation of this Little Free Pantry with mural artist, Jaz Erenberg. She constructed the “house” and together we layered our painting techniques to create this striking piece. Jaz did an initial layer of radiant color. I then received the pantry and added detailed nature scenes that can be experienced in Patterson Park in Baltimore City.
Social Distancing Circles, Black Top Mural, 2021
I designed and painted 6ft wide social distancing circles for Gallery Church’s community events. These circles allowed pods to sit together, and maintain distance from other pods. These circles were used to direct the community during events and outdoor services in Patterson Park, Baltimore, Maryland
“Where is Home?”, Interactive Public Artwork, 2020
In partnership with Night Owl Gallery in Baltimore City, I created this interactive display. Viewers were invited to put a sticker on the glass of the gallery at the location that they call home. I created this commission with paint on paper and installed it as a way to unify my neighborhood.
Hope for Sri Lanka, 2015
In 2015, spent 9 weeks in the incredible country of Sri Lanka. I worked with artists and peers from my college on various service projects. We partnered with a youth reconciliation movement that has made huge strides in the post-war nation toward unity across ethnic lines. The organization, Sri Lanka Unites, strives toward the idea of "One Sri Lanka", a dream of all ethnicities prospering together in peace.
During the trip, I created a mural of a budding lotus in the capital city, Colombo on a stretch of President's College's outer wall.
My mural of a budding lotus flower was a simple image which included a title in Singhala that spelled the word "hope". I am humbled by estimated millions that see this wall each week and I pray that it might remind each passersby that the nation holds beauty which can only continue to grow.
